DMS & Cloud Sync compared with the alternatives
Document management with folders, per-group access, tags, versions with one-click revert and locking - synced to Nextcloud, ownCloud, S3, Google Drive or OneDrive / SharePoint.
Checked on 2026-10-15. Prices are the Odoo Apps Store's prices in euros on that day (visitors outside the euro area see them converted); features are as each vendor's own public page describes them. If something here is out of date, write to support@bambooforge.dev and we will correct it.

Where files can live |
Odoo's filestore, WebDAV (Nextcloud, ownCloud, any RFC 4918 server), S3-compatible storage (AWS S3, MinIO, Wasabi), Google Drive, OneDrive and SharePoint, all in the one module |
The database, attachments or the file system; on 16.0 and 17.0, OCA's storage backends (S3, SFTP, Azure, Google Drive and others) through dms_storage |
The database's server: "Documents/Sign app files are always stored on the database's server" |
OneDrive and SharePoint, Google Drive, S3 and MinIO, ownCloud and Nextcloud, NAS over WebDAV, Dropbox, Box: one connector each |
Files |
Every upload a version, with revert; locks a manager can break; tags; links to any record; sha256 checksums |
Directories with access groups; file locks (in the code) |
Versions and locks; split and merge PDFs; My Drive, Shared with me, Recent and Trash |
A file manager with folders, tags, drag-and-drop and ZIP downloads |
Sync with the cloud |
Both ways, per folder tree: an edit made in the cloud comes back as a new version, a change on both sides becomes a conflict you settle, and every transfer is logged; every 30 minutes or on demand |
Not described |
None; files stay on the database's server |
Both ways from a queue, including moves and deletions made in the cloud, or one way only; sync logs; jobs every 15 minutes |
Folders for business records |
A folder per record by rule, named and renamed with the record; attachments mirrored into it both ways |
A folder tree per record, added to each model by a developer (dms_field, 16.0 and 18.0) |
Files gathered from other apps; an email alias per folder; file requests |
Folder trees generated from Odoo models by rules |
Document control |
Approvals, retention schedules, document codes, stamped controlled copies, content search |

Sharing |
Not described |
Portal users through access groups; a tokenized link for anonymous access |
Share links and file requests |
Portal and public sharing, with optional uploads |
Left out, as each page says |
Choosing single files to sync (sync is per folder tree); full change detection on WebDAV servers that return no ETag |
Known issues: file preview in the portal, ZIP download of a folder |
Uploads over 64 MB on Odoo Online; keeping Documents files anywhere but the database's server |

Odoo Community has no Documents app. From 18.0, Odoo's Cloud Storage modules (Community, LGPL-3) keep chatter and email attachments on Google Cloud or Azure, and OCA's fs_attachment (16.0 to 19.0) moves Odoo attachments to an outside store such as S3.
Choose which, and when
Choose OCA's dms if you run 16.0 to 19.0, want LGPL-3 code at no licence cost, share files with portal users or by link, and have a developer for folders per record (dms_field) or outside storage (OCA's storage modules). Its maturity is marked Beta, and it has no installable build for 20.0 today.
Choose Odoo Documents if you have Odoo Enterprise, including on Odoo Online, and want versions, locks, PDF split and merge, file requests and an email alias per folder from Odoo itself, with the files kept on Odoo's server.
Choose faOtools if you need Dropbox or Box, sync for Enterprise Documents workspaces (an add-on at EUR 44), or moves and deletions made in the cloud mirrored back into Odoo; budget EUR 398 plus EUR 89 for each cloud, on series back to 8.0.
Choose ours if you are on any of Odoo 16.0 to 20.0, Community or Enterprise, on Odoo.sh or your own server, and want versions with revert, locks, conflict handling and a sync log, approvals, retention, document codes and controlled copies, with WebDAV, S3, Google Drive, OneDrive and SharePoint in one module at one price - and syncing whole folder trees, not single files, suits you.
